Otto and Anna Quangel are a working-class couple whose only child has had to go to World War II.
Like many other millions of young people their son dies and they can not stand it. They can not sit idly by and react differently to other parents who have lost children.
The two of them start a campaign against Nazism and against Hitler in a country that was crazy and that followed this animal in a fanatical way, hoping that it would win the war to avenge the European powers that humiliated them in the previous war.
Of course, Hitler’s political police, the Gestapo, will not sit idly by on the initiative of these parents that can endanger the German military effort and that can make other people think that perhaps Hitler is not enlightened but a fool to take his country to a war in which a good part of a generation of young people will die.
